The Boston New Music Initiative (BNMI) is pleased to host a composition workshop as part of the Boston New Music Festival. The workshop will feature two of our core ensemble, Cellists Christopher Homick and Anna Seda. Mr. Homick and Ms. Seda will present an introduction to cello writing and then play through submitted works for solo cello or cello duet and provide feedback to the composers.
Advanced registration is required in order to have a piece read, and the workshop is limited to a maximum of 12 participants. All participants must be present at the workshop. Full members of BNMI can participate for free. Associate members and non-BNMI members can participate for a $10 registration fee. (Note: Festival Pass holders should not register for this event through the website; instead, please send an email to Beth Ratay at the email listed below.)
Attendance at this event (for anyone not submitting a piece) is free and open to the public.
Submission Specifications: Compositions must be for unaccompanied solo cello or cello duet. All pieces should be around five (5) minutes in length, or shorter. Any piece using electronics or tape must be reviewed in advance. Sketches, ideas, and incomplete works are also welcome.
If you wish to submit a piece with electronics, or receive more detailed feedback on your work, please send your submission at least 48 hours prior to the event to our Artistic Director, Beth Ratay at bratay@bostonnewmusic.org.
