June 3, 2022

8pm - Opening Concert:Literary Elements

Description: Enjoy a night of new music related to literature!

Location: The Center for the Arts at the Armory - 191 Highland Ave, Somerville

Tickets: $10 General Admission, $7 Student with ID

10pm - After Concert Meetup

Description: Join composers and performers after the concert for a chat! Non-alcoholic options are available, and each person pays for their own food and drink.

Location: Highland Kitchen - 150 Highland Ave, Somerville

June 4, 2022

10am - Group Hike

Description: Enjoy the great outdoors on a relaxing hike around Mt. Auburn.

Location: Mt. Auburn, Cambridge, MA (meeting at the Mt. Auburn St. entrance)

1:30pm - Lunch/Happy Hour

Description: Have some lunch and beverages with BNMI staff and fellow composers! Non-alcoholic options are available, and each person pays for their own food and drink.

Location: Dorchester Brewing Company - 1250 Massachusetts Ave, Boston

4:00pm - Workshop: Recorder Composition Readings with Emily O'Brien

Description: Emily O’Brien will read and critique submitted works for recorder. To submit a piece for reading go to bostonnewmusic.org/submit after May 14, 2022.

Location: The Record Co - 960 Massachusetts Ave, Boston

8:00pm - Featured Concert: The Music of Speech

Description: BNMI teams up with the Cambridge Chamber Singers (CCS) for a rare concert event! All of BNMI’s works include spoken word, and CCS will perform works from a wide variety of time periods and styles for chorus and instruments. The night will also include the world premieres of two brand new works. Andrew Davis’ On the Nature of Things for chorus and Pierrot Ensemble plus percussion was commissioned by CCS and BNMI and Ania Vu’s Strange Birds for Pierrot Ensemble plus percussion and soprano was commissioned by BNMI. 

Location: University Lutheran - 66 Winthrop St, Cambridge

9:30am - Coffee Meetup

Description: Get your morning caffeine on with BNMI staff and fellow composers.

Location: Diesel Cafe - 257 Elm St, Somerville, MA 02144

11am - Workshop: Writing for Marimba with Matt Sharrock

Description: Learn about writing for marimba from a master player! Matt will also be reading several pieces and giving feedback. To have your piece read, submit at bostonnewmusic.org/submit

Location: Via Zoom

1:30pm -  Freedom Trail & Pizza Lunch

Description: Walk the Freedom Trail and see Boston’s most famous landmarks with BNMI staff and fellow composers. We will get some pizza lunch on the way (provided).

Location: Boston Common Visitor Information Center 139 Tremont Street Boston
